Laundry guide - for beginners!

In the multitude of tips, "10 steps" and manuals available in just a few clicks of the mouse, here and there it happens that no one talks about those basic steps - and they can be the most important! That's why in the next 3 minutes we have put together a simple guide for washing clothes - for beginners, but also for those who just want to repeat the material and check their knowledge.

When we talk about machine washing, the two things we need to check first to know how to proceed are:

  • fabric color
  • fabric material

It is important to sort clothes by color in order to maximally avoid the possibility of color transfer to other fabrics during washing: for this reason, we wash white, colorful and dark clothes separately.

After we have divided the clothes by color, it is good to check the material of the fabric.

Are there any pieces of delicate fabric such as silk, wool, viscose, linen, polyester or polyamide among your clothes? A silk blouse, linen trousers, a woolen sweater or a swimsuit made of polyamide and polyester, all these pieces require a little more of our attention in order to preserve them in their original condition for as long as possible. Sensitive clothes should be washed separately: in the case of machine washing, you can choose a program for washing clothes by hand, and also check whether your washing machine has the option of choosing a program for sensitive fabric.

Sensitive laundry, especially if there is not a lot of it, can be washed by hand and thus save energy.

After we have divided the clothes by color and separated the sensitive clothes from the rest, we can move on! This is where the famous stamp sewn on the inside of the garment comes to our aid, which is there for a very good reason: it tells us how best to take care of a particular piece of clothing. If the stamp bothers you, try to remember the basic information on it before removing it.

After checking the material of the fabric and the maximum permissible washing temperature, we can easily set the appropriate washing program . As each washing machine is slightly different, we advise you to research which programs your washing machine offers. Programs that are available on most washing machines are: cotton program, linen program and wool program, and there are additional programs such as eco program (for lower energy consumption), quick wash program and program for delicate laundry (hand wash program). .

Now that we have all the information and are surely approaching the end, all that remains is to prepare the ecological detergent and fabric softener . The order of the compartments for detergent and fabric softener may be different depending on the washing machine model, so be sure to check the instructions for your washing machine before use.

On the market there is an almost endless supply of various detergents and softeners for different colors, materials and degrees of soiling. However, for efficient laundry in your home, you don't need three or four commercial detergents, one is enough!

The Melli Eko laundry care line contains one universal detergent and softener, and that's all you need. We dose them differently, depending on the washing method and degree of soiling. In addition to the fact that the whole story is simpler because of this, the Eco line has been carefully designed so that it does not contain harmful and irritating ingredients, which are present in commercial detergents and fabric softeners.

If you are interested in more details about how to use and dose the Eco line, we described everything in detail in one of the earlier blog posts .

All that's left is to turn on the washing machine and enjoy clean and fragrant laundry! We wish you happy laundry :)
